Distinguished Concerts International New York

Graphic Designer & Webmaster · 2018–Present · dciny.org

Sole designer for 100+ concerts at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. Concert branding, season programs, print campaigns, and a full website rebuild — for one of New York's most active concert producers.

The organization

DCINY is the leading producer of amateur choral and orchestral concerts in New York City, bringing ensembles from around the world to perform at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, and Weill Recital Hall. The concerts draw audiences of thousands and feature world-class guest artists — Eric Whitacre, Sir Karl Jenkins, The King's Singers, Deke Sharon, Ola Gjeilo, Christopher Tin. Some of the recordings made here have been finished at Abbey Road Studios in London.

I joined as the sole in-house designer in 2018, handling everything from the season bifolds that go out to thousands of performers and family members, to the individual concert programs, to the digital marketing that drives ticket sales. In 2022 I transitioned to a contractor relationship and continue to design for each new season.

Season bifolds

The annual season guide distributed to performers, families, and partner organizations. Lists all concerts for the season at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center. These are printed at scale and represent the primary physical marketing touchpoint for DCINY.

I designed and built the entire DCINY website from scratch, including a Salesforce integration for performer registration and a concert archive spanning every performance from 2018 onward. Still live today.

The Lincoln Center digital wall

David Geffen Hall at Lincoln Center underwent a two-year renovation that concluded in October 2022. When it reopened, the lobby featured a 40-foot digital display wall — 12,480 × 1,890 pixels, a 416:63 aspect ratio unlike anything I'd designed for before.

I was one of the first outside designers to use it. DCINY was among the inaugural performance groups in the new space, and I designed the sizzle reel that played on that wall to promote their upcoming season. There's no standard template for a 40-foot screen in a concert hall lobby — you design it, test it, and figure it out.

What designing for DCINY taught me

The work spans a wider range than it might appear. Concert branding isn't just event posters — it's a system of touchpoints that reaches performers (who traveled from around the world to play in Carnegie Hall), their families (who paid to be in the audience), and potential ticket buyers who may never have heard of DCINY before. Every piece has to communicate prestige and accessibility at the same time.

The artists DCINY works with — Eric Whitacre, Sir Karl Jenkins, The King's Singers — have their own established visual identities and fan bases. Working around them without stepping on their brand, while still making DCINY's identity legible, is a recurring design challenge.
